If you don’t have leggings, shorts are ok but it is more uncomfortable for the back of the knee on the metal equipment. Make sure your child brings water to class, and if you are attending a camp, please provide a healthy snack for break time.
PAYMENT: We need a credit card on file at all times, please update cards that expire, even if you prefer to pay cash or check. Payment is charged automatically every 4 weeks. MAKE UPS: If your child cannot make it to class, classes do not roll over to the next month, but you can do a make up within the month either Tuesdays at 6pm or Saturday at noon.
The Circus Studio opened in 2010. We have two rooms in our Studio Space in addition to our 250-seat Theatre Space, so all levels can practice in the air every day. We are the only Aerial Studio in the entire area that offers a highly comprehensive, beginner through professional program for children and adults. We are also the only aerial studio to offer Silks, Hoop, and Static Trapeze in every class. Our Level 2 and 3 also learn Aerial Cube and Double Lyra. We also do intensive conditioning, stretching, technique, solo, duo, trio, and group choreography. We host free monthly Aerial Recitals, as well as two major Aerial Youth Performances per year as well as two major Aerial Adult Performances per year.
Our Youth Program begins as early as age 3 1/2 to 5 1/2 (our Little Monkeys), then 6-12 (Kids Level 1) and 11-16 (Teen Level 1). Youth may attend one or multiple classes per week, always beginning in Level 1. If your child has previous aerial training, they can sign up for a 30 minute private to assess their skill level.
OUR YOUTH PROGRAM IN DETAIL
Youth Level 1 consists of conditioning, stretching, and learning 150 tricks on Silks, Hoop, and Static Trapeze. Students advance at their own pace, some students can be in Level 1 for a couple of years, some for only a couple of months. It all depends on their movement background, their maturity, and the frequency of their attendance. Students may also want to attend 30 or 60 minute Private Sessions to practice certain tricks they may have difficulty with, or to bump up their skill set to level up faster. Once students have learned about 80% of these tricks, they will be invited to join Level 2 Prep Class.
Level 2 Prep Class is by invitation only and is taken in addition to Level 1 Class for a few months. Here they will continue learning the rest of the tricks, perfect their technique, and work toward their first Aerial Recital. When they have mastered all 150 tricks, they will attend one Private Lesson where they will be tested on their tricks, they will perform in one of our monthly recitals, and will advance to Level 2.
Youth Level 2 is where they will further their Aerial vocabulary, learning drops, partner work, longer choreography, and begin the audition process for our annual shows. They will need to attend at least twice a week to be considered for our shows (most students attend 3-4 times per week) as we do as much rehearsing during class time as possible. Students begin to learn from each other, learning positive critiquing techniques, and learn to observe routines technically and expressively. Intensive conditioning is done in this level, on the ground as well as on the apparatus. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays these classes are held at our Theatre Space that is much larger, has much higher ceilings, and where we are able to hang more aerial apparatus at one time. This is exciting and inspiring for the students, and they become accustomed to being on the stage before they are in an actual performance. Our Level 2 Camps are also held at the Theatre. Once the students have performed in a Level 2 show, it is up to the discretion of the teacher to decide if they progress to Level 2.
Youth Level 3 students do a great deal of aerial choreography, learn advanced tricks and drops, and further their solo, duo, trio, and group work. Students learn how to express themselves creatively, and truly find who they are as a circus performer. This level requires a certain level of maturity, regardless of age, and students are expected to self-motivate and be responsible for their time in class. The most experienced teens in this level also coach the newer students, offering technical advice and creative suggestions. Intensive conditioning is also done in this level, on the ground as well as on the apparatus. Students may also begin apprenticing with their teacher in this level, if they are interested in eventually joining our team of teachers.

TUESDAYS 4-5:15pm @ Studio
FRIDAYS 6-7:15pm @ Studio
In this class, by invitation only, we prepare your children for Kids Level 2. We will hand pick the students who are almost ready for Level 2, so that we can work with them more intensely on their specific needs. Some children need help memorizing the tricks, some need help putting tricks in a sequence, some need more confidence, and everybody can always use more strength and practice, practice, practice! They will also work on choreographing and perfecting their showcase performance which is part of their testing for Level 2.
The performance will happen during the Claremont ARTwalk, which we participate in the first Saturday of every month. We have a showcase which is by donation, open to the public, with two aerial showcases, at 7pm and 8pm, at our studio.
This class will usually be attended for a period of a few months. At the end of this class, students will perform in the ARTwalk showcase, do their actual 30-60 minute Aerial Level 1 Tricks Test, and then officially advance to Level 2.

Apparatus such as Aerial Cube and Aerial Hammock will be part of the curriculum as well. They will also begin to create sequences and eventually learn fully choreographed pieces to music.
